FAQ

Q. How does Middletown Education Collaborative differ from my school’s PTO/PTG?

A. Middletown Education Collaborative (MEC) is a non-profit, 501(C)(3)organization, whose goal is to provide funding for unique and innovative enrichment opportunities in the Middletown public schools.  MEC is different than your school’s PTO/PTG in several ways.  First, gifts to the MEC, a non-profit organization, are tax deductible. This gives the MEC an advantage when fundraising in the community.  The individual school PTO/PTG has not applied for tax-exempt status with the IRS.  The other main difference is the MEC will award grants to teachers, administrators, clubs, arts and drama groups for a wide range of resourceful and creative programs that benefit every school in the district, Grades K – 12.  MEC funds are allocated for use across the entire school district, in a less restrictive way than PTO/PTG funds.
